Cut to the Essence

Why Now

We live in a world overflowing with noise.

The inbox is never empty.

The calendar is never clear.

The expectations—professional, personal, cultural—don’t let up.

We’ve been taught to add more: more commitments, more striving, more noise.

But all this more has left us drained, distracted, and disconnected from who we really are.

If you’ve ever whispered to yourself, “I’m doing it all—and still losing myself in the process,” this book is my hand extended to you.

Why This Book

I wrote Cut to the Essence because I’ve walked the edge of that overwhelm.

As an executive speechwriter and woman of color navigating ambition, identity, and faith, I learned that burnout isn’t a failure. It’s a signal. A quiet invitation back to what is truer, deeper, and essential.

This book is that return.

Blending memoir, leadership insight, and grounded research, Cut to the Essence introduces The CUT Method, a framework for leading and living with intentional clarity.

The CUT Method

Cut to the Essence isn’t about squeezing in another system or hack. It’s about subtraction—with strategy and soul.

Through The CUT Method, I walk you through three life-giving shifts:

Clarify Your Values

So you can stop living by someone else's script.

Uncover the Essence

Find the one thing that’s been obscured by the many things.

Treasure the Time

Living aligned with meaning, not just motion.

This is subtraction as strength. Not shrinking your life, but sharpening it.

Why Me?

I have lived the script of striving: from an over-achieving teen to a burned out journalist, then as a speechwriter for presidents and chancellors at a first-ranked college and a first-ranked university, all while battling health challenges that were as emotionally taxing as they were physical.

Outwardly successful, inwardly suffocating. Overload nearly consumed me.

Time and again I learned that more wasn’t more, but less was. By cutting away what no longer fit, I uncovered a refined way of living that balances clarity and strength.

This isn't a theory for me. It’s my life story interwoven with my learnings. It is my return, my cut, my essence.

The CUT Method creates space for a larger life, so we can:

  • Burn bright not burn out.

  • Subtract the chaos, embrace the core.

  • Be poised and purposeful, not defeated and depleted.

For professionals navigating change, for women carrying invisible weight, for anyone tired of performing at the edge of exhaustion in every arena — this book offers a way to live and lead without losing yourself.

If you’re seeking steadiness in a world of speed, presence in a world of pressure, and a leadership voice rooted in authenticity rather than urgency, this is your next step.
